ITINERARY
DAY 1: TUXTLA GUTIERREZ - SUMIDERO CANYON - SAN CRISTOBAL
Reception at the Tuxtla Gutierrez airport and transfer to the Grijalva River pier to navigate and observe the geological wonder that gives its name to the Sumidero Canyon, where we will also observe a diversity of flora and fauna. At the end of the tour, we will transfer to the Colonial City of San Cristobal de Las Casas, founded in 1528 by Captain Diego de Mazariegos, and declared a World Cultural Heritage Site. Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel of your choice and rest of the day at leisure. Lodging.
DAY 2: SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS - INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES
After breakfast, we will depart to the Indigenous Communities of the Tzotzil ethnic group; visiting first Chamula, to learn, and thus understand the fusion of contemporary traditions and Mayan ancestral characteristics that identifies this place. Afterwards, we will continue to Zinacantan, where we will visit the church and the house of a family cooperative, where we will be welcomed with a regional drink and observe how the women work the Pre-Columbian waist loom. After seeing samples of what they produce, we will be offered a visit to their kitchen, where if we are lucky, we will be invited to taste handmade tortillas. Afterwards, we will return to San Cristobal. Rest of the day at leisure. Lodging.
DAY 3: SAN CRISTOBAL - MONTEBELLO LAKES - SAN CRISTOBAL
In the morning, departure from San Cristobal de Las Casas, towards the Montebello Lakes, our first visit will be to the indigenous pottery community of Amatenango del Valle; later, we will go to the Chiflón waterfall, a natural waterfall that is surrounded by lush vegetation formed by reed and palm groves, we will finish with a visit to the most beautiful lake area of Mexico: the Montebello Lakes. The Natural Reserve that bears this name, is composed of several hectares of pine trees, oaks and jungle, and where we can see several lakes, and admire, weather permitting, the different shades of the waters that make up this beautiful place. Afternoon return to San Cristobal de Las Casas. Lodging.
DÍA 4: SAN CRISTÓBAL - AGUA AZUL - MISOL HA
Early in the morning, we will leave for Palenque, stopping at Agua Azul, a set of waterfalls created by the currents of the Otulún, Shumuljá and Tulijá rivers, forming shallow canyons with vertical cliffs, where you can swim and enjoy the different areas. Afterwards, we will continue to the waterfalls of Misol-Ha, which, with its 30 meters high, and surrounded by high tropical jungle, make this a beautiful and refreshing place. At the end of the tour we will visit the archaeological site of Palenque. This Mayan city stands out for its architectural and sculptural heritage, and where we can admire several constructions: The Palace, The Temple of the Foliated Cross, The Temple of the Sun and others. Transfer to the hotel in the city of Palenque and lodging.
DAY 5: PALENQUE - YAXCHILÁN - BONAMPAK - PALENQUE
Early in the morning we will leave for Frontera Corozal, where we will embark for approximately one hour downriver to visit the mystical archaeological site of Yaxchilan, a place renowned for the quality of the sculptures found there. On the way back, we will continue our visit to Bonampak. Its name means "Painted Walls", and therein lies the fame of this site, since on the walls of the enclosures are the best preserved paintings of the Mayan World. Afterwards, we will return to Palenque. Lodging.
DAY 6: LACANDON JUNGLE - LACANJÁ - PALENQUE
After breakfast, we will hike through the trails of the Lacandon Jungle accompanied by a Lacandon guide. During this hike we will visit the Cedros River and the Moctuni-Ha waterfalls, where we will have free time to swim and rest. A tour that will undoubtedly leave you impressed. Return to Lacanja where lunch is included, and in the afternoon you will return to the city of Palenque. Lodging.
DAY 7: PALENQUE - LA VENTA MUSEUM - VILLAHERM AIRPORT
After breakfast we will depart to the city of Villahermosa, where we will visit the museum "La Venta", which treasures one of the largest collections of pieces belonging to the Olmec Culture; all classified into 4 groups: altars, stelae, sculptures and the impressive colossal heads. Afterwards, we will transfer to the city's airport for our return flight.
